The Latin hit spends a 7th week atop the Billboard Hot 100

Unsurprisingly, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee has managed to top the Billboard 100 for a 7th week. The reggaeton-pop song continues to grow in popularity, just 10 days ago it received its 2 billionth view making it the fast song to reach the milestone in Youtube history.

The remix, featuring pop megastar Justin Bieber, has accounted for the majority of the song’s sales.

The remix featuring Justin Bieber has proved massively important in aiding the song’s popularity by introducing it to markets more accustomed to music by English-speaking artists. For the last 3 weeks the remix has accounted for 80% of the song’s sales, this week it dropped by 1%; being downloaded 139,000 times.

Wild Thoughts has debuted in the Top 5.

Last week I mentioned DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” being a possible competitor in the race to dethrone Despacito from the top spot. ‘Thoughts’ has debuted at #4 on the official charts and #2 on the digital sales chart with 89,000 downloads. It’s not a #1 but it is Rihanna’s 31st top 10 (she now ranks 3rd in the list of most top 10’s) and DJ Khaled’s third top 10.

Bridge Over Troubled Water (UK)

After the terrible Grenfell Tower disaster the whole of the UK needed something to lift their spirits. The answer – A collective of home grown musical talents producing an amazing cover of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. The song is the fastest selling single of the decade in the UK having sold 120,000 copies in only a day and taking the #1 spot concurrently. The single featuring the likes of Rita Ora, Leona Lewis, James Arthur, Jessie J, Louis Tomlinson, and grime superstar Stormzy – just to say a few- is forecasted to spend a 2nd week at the top next week.
